Slumdog Millionaire - Simply Awesome!!!

Yesterday one of my friends asked me if I had watched the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. My answer was negative. He told that this movie is just like those ‘anything never before’ type ones. He didn’t say much and asked me if I wanted its copy. I was affirmative. But in order to share this movie we had to take up good many number of problems. As he was right then physically very far, he had to transfer the file. And I hope you are aware about what might happen, if you try to transfer mammoth file on a speed of 20-30k. Just for this reason I asked him to convert the file to .3gp format and to upload it on some free space provider.

Today I have got the chance to download and watch the movie. My first reaction: Man! It’s simply AWESOME!!!!!

Well! Before anything about the movie I would like to thank and praise the director(s) and cast of the movie.

Dany Boyle and Loveleen Tandon have presented the thing in such a beautiful manner about which you can just dream of. Believe it or not, I was getting Goosebumps while watching it. It was not because it’s some horror movie or an action flick. It is basically a love story. But it has got all for which you can call it a perfect one.

Dev Patel (as Jamal Malik) and Freida Pinto (as Latika), both new comers, have given their best. You get to see the real face of slums in Mumbai. Lives of children there and how they are converted to ‘bhajan singing’ beggers, by some human trafficker. You would also get to see what are the most ugly deed and most ugly faces of human beings. The real picture of struggle in lives of people living in slums is what makes you think seriously. The expressions and emotions may let your eyes get moist.

This movie is no traditional Bollywood movie, with all those songs and excessive drama. I suggest the Indian filmmakers to take a lesson from this movie, otherwise the day is not far when they will be out of business.

Hey! I just and simply can’t explain what’s best about it, because it is the BEST! My innermost feelings are here but really aren’t expressed the way it should be. Okay! Now it’s upon you that which way you understand this.

It doesn't seem like a stretch to suggest that America might now be ready to embrace films in the style of India's Bollywood films. While "Slumdog Millionaire" is far from a Bollywood tragic love story filled with singing and dancing, the way director Danny Boyle will rivet audiences with his film that is authentic to Indian culture while using a distinctly Western style of film-making might be enough proof that there is a profit to be made here.

"Slumdog Millionaire" is a drama exposing the tragic effects of poverty in gigantic Indian cities like Mumbai that is also fused with a modern day Indian fairytale. Jamal Malik is a young man on India's "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" and is a question away from one million dollars when he's arrested on suspicion of cheating. Because Jamal is from the slums of India and has no educational background, it seems entirely improbable if not impossible that Jamal could make it this far, but each question is connected with distinct and sometimes painful memories for Jamal. It's as if he is destined to win, even though he only went on the show to impress a girl he has loved his whole life, Latika.

Danny Boyle ("28 Days Later," "Sunshine") takes us from memory to memory as Jamal advances question by question toward the million dollars. These memories offer vivid insight into poverty in India as well as the lives of Jamal, Latika and Jamal's older brother Salim. As children they are left parentless and taught how to swindle tourists, leading to lives of little fulfillment or even corruption. Despite being separated, Jamal and Latika are reunited several times and in fact Jamal's only motivation in life is his love for her.

While the young, unknown, Indian actors are absolutely amazing in this film, the biggest kudos go to director Boyle, who creates an astonishing film. For Boyle to go from science fiction and zombie thrillers to taking on a project as daring and unusual as "Slumdog Millionaire" proves that he's not only a brave director, but a versatile one. His great success with making this film intense, eye-opening and full of heart all at the same time prove that he's also an incredible one. "Slumdog" is just the beginning for Boyle who might be one of the most progressive and talented directors working today.

It's hard to be completely blown away by a film whose core message is about destiny and leans on the fact that Jamal is simply fated to do this well in explaining what has unfolded, but like any good film ought to, Boyle makes you a fan of the characters and not care as much about the logistics as you might normally do. The fact that this film starts out so dramatic and real makes it hard to embrace the fairytale it blossoms into, but it's the great visual storytelling along the way that makes it so enjoyable.

Are You A Hardcore Music Lover???

If your answer for the above question is yes, then read on! Music is the food for soul and those who are music lovers know this thing very well.
A few days back I was sitting ideal. I had got bored with the chemistry chapters I had been flipping through. And nothing was seeming so interesting to do at that time. Something struck me and I placed a call to Nikhil. Actually, a day before we had been hunting for a pirated disk of the Hindi movie 'Rock On!' That day we couldn't get that and I was very keen to watch that, say at any cost. Alas! I couldn't get that anywhere. So I asked Nikhil to search for the movie once more and come to my place. When he was there browsing the movie disks at one of the movie rent shops, he got the movie we were searching for. He called me instantly and asked me whether he should get that. I told him that what a dumb question he had been asking.
He turned up with the movie within ten minutes. The disc was a DVD, there were also some movies which were not of our interest. And this was for sure that we couldn't see that movie at his place as he didn't have a DVD player. I have a DVD drive in my laptop. I pushed that disc in the drive tray and started praying for it to run properly. There is a speciality in my DVD drive, whenever you are curious about any DVD, it wouldn't let that run. And the same happened with this disc. Somehow, after many tries we were able to run the disc. I navigated to the movie we were searching for. I played it... And you know what???!!! That was a hall print i.e. it was recorded in some cinema hall with the help of a camera. You can just imagine how terrible the picture and sound quality would be. Well! Our curiosity didn't let us stop watching even that so a ghastly print.
Okay! That was a bitter part of the story. We started the movie with all the curtains down and the volume to its fullest, giving a cenamatic effect. The movie started with a good song. It was really a good start. Many of the people would have found this movie a bit boring due to all the silent acting of Farhan Akhtar, in the first half. But his role was that way. He did all the justice to the character. His three friends and he himself were a band. The name of their band was 'Magik'. It showed a clear picture of a typical Indian scenario. How they got separated and what was the reason for their seperation etc. Well! It was very nice to see them perform at the stage once again in their mid-thirties.
I loved the songs most. All the actors has almost made the characters life like. I would recommend this movie for all, but especially for those who love music most (if you are a fool like me, and haven't watched the movie till now). The songs in this movie have a good touch of western music, and these would for sure get you goosebumps at some instances. Enjoy! And get your feedback, back to me.
